Traditional Yerba Mate – Barão de Cotegipe – 1 kg

Erva Mate Tradicional by Barão de Cotegipe

The Erva Mate Tradicional from the Brazilian brand Barão de Cotegipe is a mate tea for the classic Chimarrão – as stated on the yellow-orange 1 kg package. Erva Mate is made from the leaves of the mate bush (Ilex paraguariensis) and naturally contains caffeine.

In southern Brazil, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, Chimarrão is part of everyday life: The Cuia (the drinking vessel) is filled with mate, poured over with hot water, and often passed around the group. The 1 kg package is ideal for anyone who drinks mate regularly.

Preparation as Chimarrão

• Fill the Cuia about two-thirds full with mate and hold it at an angle so that the herbs gather on one side.
• Pour some cold or lukewarm water into the empty side and let it steep briefly.
• Insert the Bomba (drinking straw with a filter) into the damp side.
• Pour over hot, but not boiling, water and drink. Then keep refilling.

Tererê: Use cold water or fruit juice instead of hot water – refreshing in summer.
