Feijão Preto – Black Beans by Combrasil
The Feijão Preto is the bean used in Feijoada, Brazil's national dish. The black beans give the stew its dark color and rich flavor. Beans are also served almost daily in Brazil – usually with rice as Arroz com Feijão.
For feijoada, the beans are soaked overnight and then cooked with garlic, onions, bay leaves, meat, and sausage, such as Carne Seca (dried meat) and Linguiça. It is traditionally served with white rice, farofa, sautéed collard greens, and orange slices.
Preparation
- Sort and rinse the beans.
- Soak overnight in cold water.
- Drain the soaking water and cook the beans in fresh water until tender – add bay leaves, onion, and garlic to taste.
Our Feijoada Recipe shows you step by step how to make the original. Kitano Bay Leaves, Yoki Ready-Made Farofa, and Tio João Rice are perfect additions. For everyday meals: Feijão Carioca by Combrasil.
